Feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer, Priest

Today’s Reading
Jeremiah 11:18-20
Ps 7:2-3, 9bc-12
John 7:40-53

“...for to you I have entrusted my cause!” (Jer 11:20)
Never before has anyone spoken like this one. (John 7:46)

It wasn’t easy but it was worth it

“If anyone supposes he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if one loves God, one is known by him” (1 Corinthians 8:2-3).

God gave us amazing minds that were meant to learn. In this sense, knowledge is valuable. Yet there is a point at which knowledge can become an idol, when we begin to treasure what we know more than we treasure the God who has helped us learn it. All true knowledge, whether it is practical, theological, or philosophical, is meant to help us love God and serve our neighbor. It’s meant to help us share his good news and build his kingdom here on earth.

Pride moves us to love ourselves. Humility moves us to assess our motives carefully. Pride leads us to love our thoughts and to blur the truth when it challenges us. Humility leads us to listen humbly and judge the truth on its own merit. May we always choose the humble path and not allow ourselves to become puffed up with self-love.

Humility at Heart
By Mary Lorelie Vicedo Aquino

Humility at heart is the abandonment of ourselves for the love of God
The emptiness of our selfish desire and live only for God desires for us
The confidence that all we have and will have will lead us closer to God
Embracing the truth that Jesus is the Way, The Truth, and the Life.

Humility at heart acknowledges our limitations and weaknesses
The acceptance that we cannot accomplish anything without the grace of God
The heart that concedes to God’s will, plan and promises
Confidence to live in His peace, harmony and truth

Humility at heart conquer doubts, anger, pain for the love of God
To be in the service of God, is to know real joy,
because this service brings with it a great purpose,
a lasting hope and an abundance of grace.

Humility at our heart is abandonment, surrender and worship
Believing in God, Hoping for His mercy and trusting in His will
Humility of our heart, is our best gift to God
Our total offering for the grandeur of blessings He has bestowed

Humility of heart knows the true contentment of life
True contentment can only come when we place all our trust in Jesus.
We trust Him with the past; we believe Him in the present;
we place our hope in Him for the future

The perfect work of love is the transformation of our heart into the dwelling of God
Embracing the power of God’s love to rule our daily lives
Focusing on what we can give to our Father as what the Father can give us
It wasn’t easy but Jesus gave it all of us, his life for our salvation.
Humble ourselves and surrender now and forever. Amen.
